I am sure that many of us make a terribly bad habit of pounding mixed drinks that most certainly should be savored and enjoyed at a much more relaxed pace. Gin & Tonics, Spiked Lemonades and Moscow Mules are way too refreshing to be consumed in mere minutes. Of course, these cocktails taste so delicious that they go down too easily, and clearly, it is entirely the fault of the drinks.
Kyle has been dabbling with stronger, more spirit forward drinks as a means of self-imposed pacing while imbibing cocktails. Asking one to exercise self-restraint while drinking something such as a Gin & Tonic is just too much, obviously it is the drink itself that must be fine tuned.
While engineering this particular libation, which is now on our “Slow Sipper” options list when mixing drinks, Kyle was inspired by Mission Taqueria in Philadelphia, who also happens to have inspired last month’s Bad Hombre Cocktail on our blog. The drink on their menu is titled the Bee Sting. It consists of tequila, lemon juice, and jalapeno honey.
The Bee Sting encompasses sweet refreshing notes of honey and lemon, it then mingles with a sting from the jalapeno creating a truly unforgettable drink. Kyle knew he had to create this beautiful bevvy at home.
The one change he made in his approach to the creation of this new version of the cocktail was to up the “sting” factor”. This was done by infusing the honey syrup with habanero peppers in place of the jalapenos. The heat of the habaneros amplifies the spicy kick of the drink, fashioning a unique and refreshing drink experience.
The Tequila Habanero Honey & Lemon Cocktail, or as we affectionately named it – the buzz, buzz, BUZZ!, can be a great alternative companion to the margarita (not replace, nothing can replace the classic margarita) BUT – this cocktail is unquestionably a welcome addition to any Cinco de Mayo repertoire.
A great companion to this fabulous cocktail would be our Chunky Avocado Salsa! Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Inspired by Mission Taqueria.
